Thank you to the Lady Captains from WGC for giving me the opportunity to be the Captain of the Society of Lady Captains and Ex Captains of East Lancashire henceforth known as the society). We are looking forward to hosting the society here in 2026.

Thank you to Julie Speight for your efforts and hospitality over the last year as Captain and congratulations on your year.

I am a very proud member of WGC where we have an excellent, vibrant, supportive and friendly women’s section. Many of our past lady captains are here today.

The last time we hosted the society was in 2005 when Mrs Catherine Stone was elected as Captain.

Our course is undergoing a multi-year programme of winter works, if you have not played here for a few years, you will notice some big changes. Last year the course was re-measured giving course slope ratings for men and women from each tee. This resulted in the red tee women’s course slope rating increasing from 125 to 138 so any ladies coming to play in the golf competition in August will get lots of shots, as well as a warm welcome, a beautiful course with some exceptional views and great food, the one thing I cannot guarantee is the weather!

So in 2026, I have set myself 26 challenges, including keeping my handicap below 26, playing 26 golf courses and playing with 26 players from other clubs …. So I’m available

I am looking forward to working with the ladies on committee and I wish Angela Espley, our new President a wonderful year full of fun and friendship

I am hoping for an uneventful year with a golf competition that goes ahead without a hitch, no broken bones or time in hospital, a bridge drive without incident and a luncheon with good food and company.
